Real Talk

The video that I watch for this weeks blog is a man talking about general steroids facts. Everything from how it affects teenagers to the different types of steroids out on the market for people to use. He goes into detail about how drug testing is only effective if the drug in the steroids is actually in the database for the drug test, so really new steroids can't be found on a drug test. He talks about the differences in oral verses shooting up steroids and how they have different effect. Different types of steroids can have different effects on the body were as some are designed to hold water weight and some are designed to actually shed water weight.

I believe that this article had some very valuable information for people to listen to if they are going to take steroids or for people just wonder about steroids in general. The majority of information found in this video is true and can be trusted. The facts about teenagers taking steroids is so true! The affects steroids have on a young developing person will have lasting affects on them and should not be taken at such a young age.

Partnership for a "Drug Free" America?

"Steroids" found on The Partnership for a Drug-Free America web site is giving you the basic information about what steroids actually are. It talks about what type of people use them, how to use them, the side effects of using them, and the long term effects of steroids on the body. They do say that, "Body builders, long-distance runners, cyclists and various other athletes who claim that steroids give them a competitive advantage and/or improve their physical appearance use these drugs illegally." So they do acknowledge that fact that athletes do use them to get an advantage.

Honestly this is basically the same information I have bee finding out on every other website, video, magazine article, or blog. It does go into a little more detail, talking about the side effects because it is trying to actually describe the drug and not be biased about it. All in all it is a very good website to take a look at but I would have rather read a Muscular Development magazine article than go back and read this website again.

Should We Allow Steroids in Sports?

The article "Should we Accept Steroids use in Sports?", Jeffery Katz talks about the whole use of steroids in sports, whether we should allow it or not. The article talks about how some people against the use of steroids think that it is causing younger kids to use steroids to be just like idols in sports. The use of steroids among teenagers has increased over the time all of the steroids trials have been happening. But I do not believe that the fact that sport athletes are using steroids to get a "unfair advantage" is the main cause for the increase in steroids among teenagers.

I believe that teenagers are using steroids more because they think that it will actually help them in the long run without any side effects, which anyone that truly works out and knows what they are talking about will tell you that is not true at all. Even I know for a teenager to be using steroids is not a smart idea at all because the human body is still developing during the teenage years. Steroids basically causes your body to over produce testosterone which cn have some very harmful effects on the human body at a very young age.

The Book on Steroids

So for one of my final reviews I read the book Steroids by Jacqueline Adams. This is a very informative book giving you information about the actually use of steroids, where they came from, and many other examples are listed. Steroids were developed to help treat just about every disease and virus imaginable in 1849. Doctors determined back then that the testis on a young man could be cut up if he was in the choir so his voice would not get deeper with age. But nobody before this time could explain what actually went on in the human body with the testis to form the deeper voice and other male characteristics.

I do believe that this book does have some very valuable information in it. I also believe that this book has some information that is biased because it is written for high school students to read and obtain information. The information that I do believe is informative is talking about how the history of steroids came to be. Talking about the doctors and their research, that was interesting to learn about.

The information I found to be kind of hard to believe was all the talk about how bad steroids are for you. Yes, they are bad if you are 17 and trying to get the edge on you appoints in sports. But for the average 50 year old man who is trying to get that extra boost in the weight room so he can show off too his wife, I do not believe that this information is relevant. The effects that steroids have on younger users vs. older users is completely different. Yes, steroids to make TEENS get a little heated every now and then, but for an adult it will not affect him the same way.

This book was rather interesting to read, but I do not believe that you should just believe this book alone when researching steroids.

Interview on Steroids

When it came time to do our interaction I decided it would be best to interview someone that has actually taken steroids. I knew a guy from the local YMCA that has taken steroids before and thought why not ask him what he thinks about them. He is still jacked off of steroids but when he was on steroids he was massive. Lets see what he has to say about Anabolic Steroids...

1) How long have you been taking steroids? I took them for 3 months

2) What made you decided to take steroids? I just wanted to be bigger and was pressured by a friend

3) Before steroids what other supplements were you taking? I never took anything other than steroids

4) Have you noticed any change in aggresion? Yes, very much so. Just the smallest things would tick me off and ruin my day.

5) Have you noticed any change in body mass? Yeah I did in just one month I gained about 20 lbs and out grew a lot of my clothes.

6) Any other physical or emotional changeds I should know about? Not really other than the mood swings that occured very frequently

7) Would you recomend steroids to people? No I would not

8) If so why or why not? yeah they make u bigger and feel cool but really all they do is destroy your relationships with people bc of the mood swings and they destroy your body in the long run.

9) Do you ever wish you didn't take steroids? Yes, I regret taking them everyday. I knew they werent good for me but yet I still did it because I wanted to get bigger quicker which was a very dumb idea. I also regret taking them because they were very expensive and I wasted a lot of my hard earned money and money that I recieved from friends and family and I know that they would be disappointed in me if they knew what I spent their money on.

10) Anything you would suggest to someone that is thinking about steroids? Don't do it nothing positive comes from steroids and you will highly regret it if you take them.

I am glad he had the time to talk to me while working out because it has shed new light on my position on steroids. Now grant it he is only around 25 or so, but still. Steroids are a thing that should be taken wisely if you do decide to take them and be ready to suffer the side effects from taking them.

Weight Loss vs. Muscle Loss

In the June 2009 edition of Muscular Development it talks about how GH (Growth Hormone) can help a person from loosing muscle mass and size after weight loss surgery. I talks about how people who took GH preserved lean muscle mass, bone mass, and showed improved blood fat profiles. The people who did not take GH lost a lot more and had to regain everything after they got better from the surgery.
I believe that this is a good thing for people that are in the weightlifting, sports, and athletic field. Instead of loosing everything after weight loss surgery, you only have to recover a little bit of the muscle mass that you lost from the surgery.

The "Truth"

This video is a CNN article based on a non-biased take on steroids and what they do for a person. They will tell you that they are healthy for ADULTS to take. No where do they ever say anything about it being safe for teens to use them so that is one thing they do that helps. They talk about the war on Washington talking about the use of steroids in sports and as apart of a workout system.
I honestly believe that this is one of the most factual documents I have actually heard or read so far on the topic. It actually gave you the real facts that you need to know about steroids. It helps boost good cholesterol and lowers bad cholesterol which is a GOOD thing for adults. All of the myths and legends you hear about steroids are basically busted based on the information that this video gives you.

Sports?

In the article "Anabolic steroids" on espn.com it talks about everything a person could every want to know about steroids. It goes into detail about how steroids work in the body, how it effects a person mentally, and why it is unsafe for teenagers and adults to use. Studies have shown that and Dr. Walder also agree and say, "Some are visible to the naked eye and some are internal. Some are physical, others are psychological. With unsupervised steroid use, wanton 'megadosing' or stacking (using a combination of different steroids), the effects can be irreversible or undetected until it's too late" (ESPN). Adult males who take steroids will more than likely have some of the following symptoms; reduced sperm count, impotence, development of breast, shrinking of testicles, and or pain while urinating. Also a person can experience "roid rage" while taking steroids were a person can heightened aggression.

Now after reading this article and talking to people that have actually used steroids I can honestly say that this is just another media plug to get people to stop taking steroids. Yes you might seem to get mad easier, but the steroids have nothing to do with your overall personality. Also the myth about shrinking testicles is not true. I have talked to people that haven taken anabolic steroids, D-bol, and other "test" (aka testosterone supplements) supplements and just about every person said that their testicles did not shrink at all. So honestly I still do believe that young adults and teenagers should not use anabolic steroids, I do believe that adults should be allowed to make their own decisions on steroid use.

http://www.steroid.com/video/#top

In the video post on March 15 2010 called Steroids in Sports "BC" talks about how the use of steroids in sports in his eyes are really not cheating at all. He makes a very good point by saying that most people that watch sports watch them because they want some big record to be broken. The people break the record or do the amazing thing in their sport and then they get criticized and get accused for using steroids. My question is why though?

If a grown adult so chooses to take anabolic steroids and choose to do them the smart way and not hurt themselves then why bother worrying about who takes them or not. In every sport you will always have some person that is going to "juice up" and if the organization really wanted to they could test just about every play before every game. People are getting payed big money to swing a bat, kick a ball, or tackle someone. If they organizations really cares then why not fork over a couple hundred dollars before every game to make sure that people were not doing what they so call "cheating"? Really what it looks like is that people are just turning their heads knowing what is going on but not really caring because that is what brings in the big money; big guys making big tackles or hitting the ball 400 feet out of the park. I don't know you tell me what you think about it?
